In-The-Canal (ITC) Style Hearing Aid

The in-the-canal (ITC) style of hearing aids is provided with a custom-made fit that only fills out the lower half of the external ear. These hearing aids are often unseen to someone directly facing the wearer. To ensure a comfortable perfect fit, a mold of each ear is taken to produce the shape of the hearing aid. When a smaller size hearing aid is preferred, the ITC is often chosen instead of the in-the-ear (ITE) style.

This style of hearing aid provides a more natural hearing experience for the user through its deep placement in the ear canal and venting. This particular hearing aid may not work well for those with a narrow ear canal.

In-The-Canal (ITC) Function and Appearance

In-the-canal (ITC) hearing aids are positioned in the bottom area of the outer ear bowl, making them easy to use and comfortable to wear. Since ITC hearing aids are a little bigger in size than the completely-in-canal (CIC) or invisible-in-the-canal (IIC) styles, they can handle a larger range of hearing loss and also have a longer battery life.

Since this hearing aid rests so far inside the ear, it only captures the sounds the ear would naturally hear. It also naturally identifies the direction from which the sound is coming. This translates into hearing sound in its natural form rather than sound which is too loud or muddled.

FEATURES

The in-the-canal (ITC) style hearing aid offers the following features:

  • Usually cannot be seen when facing another person directly
  • Larger size, enabling more features than the CIC and IIC styles
  • Longer battery life than CIC and IIC styles

The ITC hearing aids also allow easy use of a phone – landline or mobile. Unlike some other hearing aid styles, there is no need to hold the phone at an angle when you have it up to your ear.
